Hunting for Duiker

The grey duiker, a medium-sized duiker, is smaller than most antelopes and adapted for savanna woodlands with longer legs and a less rounded back. Only males have upright horns. "Duiker" comes from the Dutch "duik," meaning "to dive," reflecting their low running style. They are browsers, active in the late afternoon and evening, and usually solitary. Duikers survive near humans and get moisture from browsing, making them independent of water sources. Trophy evaluation is tough, as duikers offer only fleeting glances. Common Duikers can be hunted year-round in South Africa, with May to September preferred. Hunting the “Tiny Ten” is considered more challenging than the “Big Five”.
