Hunting for Nyala
The Nyala is a striking antelope native to Zululand, known for its elusive nature. The Zulu name for this animal, meaning "shifty one," reflects its secretive behavior. Nyalas are unique in that the male is called a bull and the female a ewe, marking a transition between larger and smaller antelope species.
Males are larger, with distinct features such as a white chevron between the eyes, a white mane, and spiral horns with ivory tips. Females, on the other hand, are orange-brown with white stripes. Nyalas prefer dense woodlands but will venture into open plains to graze. They are water-dependent, drinking daily and grazing during cooler hours or at night.
When hunting Nyala, a well-placed shot is crucial due to their thick body hair, making it hard to judge the shot.
