Hunting for Suni

Hunting suni in South Africa is a specialized pursuit, as these elusive antelopes are part of the "Tiny Ten." The suni (Neotragus moschatus) is a very small species of antelope found in dense brush across southeast Africa, from Tanzania to northeastern South Africa. Males weigh 10-12 pounds and stand 12 to 17 inches at the shoulder, while females are slightly larger. Only males have horns, which grow to 3-5 inches. Given their limited range, hunting suni often requires a dedicated trip. Active primarily at dusk and night, suni rest in shaded areas during the day. Though similar to the blue duiker, the suni's fur is a much redder hue. Classified as a low-risk, they remain a unique and prized quarry for hunters.
