Hunting for Steenbok
The steenbok, the largest of the "Tiny Ten" antelopes, is commonly mispronounced as “steenbok” (long e) but is correctly said as “ste-inbok” (long i). Native to open plains, they avoid forests, mountains, and deserts. Only the males have upright horns, and they are mostly solitary, except during mating. Active during dawn and dusk, steenboks are territorial, often fleeing at high speed when approached. However, they might pause briefly to look back, providing a rare shot opportunity. Hunting them requires patience, as their small size, neutral coloring, and sharp senses make them challenging to spot. Steenbok are often hunted by chance encounters, and they make excellent full or pedestal mounts, taking up minimal space in a trophy room.
