Hunting for Roan
The roan antelope, a large and regal species native to Northern Southern Africa, has become more widely available due to game ranching. Known for its strawberry-tinted coat and black-and-white facial markings, it resembles the sable more than the gemsbok. Both males and females carry horns, with males having thicker and longer ones. Roans form small, stable herds, with dominant bulls defending their group vigorously. They are grazers but will browse when grass is scarce. Roan should be approached with caution due to their size and aggression. They are best hunted at first light near water sources. Roans make impressive trophies, whether mounted as a pedestal, shoulder, or European skull mount.
