Hunting for
Black Impala
Black Impala, a melanistic color phase of the Southern Impala, is not a subspecies. Developed through selective breeding in South Africa, some game farms now offer Black Impala hunts. The best time to hunt is during the rut in May, when males are most active and easily identifiable. The rest of the African winter, June to September, is also ideal. Black Impala are usually hunted by spot-and-stalk. This method allows hunters to assess trophy quality and avoid hitting other antelopes. Their unusual black color and often deformed horns make them a sought-after trophy for those seeking unique specimens.
