Hunting for
Caracal

Caracals are lynx-like cats hunted with hounds in South Africa. These medium-sized felines are stockier than servals, with fur ranging from light red to dark brick red, short tails, and distinct ear tufts. They primarily hunt birds, small mammals, and sometimes small antelope like duikers. Caracals are mostly nocturnal but can be seen during the day. Hunting is often a chance encounter, with spotlighting over bait or using predator calls being effective methods. Caracal hunting occurs year-round in South Africa and from March to November elsewhere. Success depends on knowing the cat's territory and sometimes waiting over its fresh kill. Caracals are known for their impressive jumps and diverse prey.
